I became interested in training horses at the age 12 when my dad took my brothers and I to a horse auction where they were homing BLM mustangs. We adopted our first few mustangs there. We somehow got a few rideable, and did overnight trail rides with them etc.
When I was 14, I really wanted to get a quarter horse, we didn’t have internet, so I would watch ads in the catalogs, finally I found a 3 yr old Reg QH mare halfways across the country, so I mailed my hard earned $1200 to them, had her hauled in and started her from scratch, that really fueled my passion to learn more!
So I started reading books from John Lyon, then buying training videos, and at one time I bought $500 worth from Clinton Anderson! Which was a Lot for me!
Then At the age of 15 I began work as a stall cleaner at the Bar F Ranch, cleaning 25 stalls, feeding, mowing doing ranch work etc, it was a western pleasure, cutting and team roping equine facility in Pennsylvania and that is where my passion grew to learn how to train all disciplines. Soon I started working horses on the ground and eventually riding and training under Rob Foster.
Team roping became an interest to me as we would do that fairly often at the Bar F, i trained my first head horse there with Rob's help,
Rob and Pam taught me so much when it comes to taking care of horses, clients, training and keeping up a ranch!
A number of years later I went out on my own training for various clients,
At this point I starting pursuing reining, taking lessons from Josette Conti and then flying down to Texas to ride with Casey Deary, they both helped shape my training career as well!
In 2013 a friend encouraged me to do a mustang makeover, so I did, that year started my competitions with wild mustangs, over the next 10 years, I did many Makeovers, Celebrity Freestyles etc, leading into many Championships and reserve champions!
In 2022 I was invited to compete at the Road To The Horse Wildcard Challenge, we picked a horse we named 'Ol Red and ended up being reserve Champion!
A few years ago, we went on a journey competing in the Extreme Cowboy Race, we entered the green mustang division with a client's horse, we were blessed to become World Champions in the division!
The following year I took "Heza Mercedes" to the EXCA, he ended being the Texas State Champion, Regional Champion and 12th in the World standings in the Pro Division!
We came down to Texas in 2017 and we (my wife, myself, and our three children) are blessed to have a ranch here close to Mineral Wells, training, doing clinics and helping people get more connected with their horses!
One of the highlights currently in my career is helping people all around the world through this online academy,
I consistently share the knowledge that I've learned over the past 25 years of working with horses, helping people be able to enjoy their horses to a much deeper level!
We're never done learning about the Horse!
